    Ralph Earl Loghry and Anna Rebecca Smith were married on 19 July 1909 in Clarinda, Page, Iowa, United States, Clarinda, Iowa, September 8--Earl Loghry enticed his young wife to take a walk with him down the K & W railroad track last night, telling her that he had secured a place for him and her to work and that he wanted to go to it that night. When they got about to the center of a large trestle he threw her off into the stream thirty feet below and then made his way back to Clarinda. As luck would have it she was not hurt and after she had recovered from the shock she scrambled out of the mud and water and made her way back to Clarinda through the dark. This took place between nine and ten o'clock.

    A warrant was instantly sworn out and the scoundrel was arrested forthwith by Constable Mosely and O.P. Rosencrans, city marshal, and was bound over to await the action of the October grand jury on the charge of attempting to murder his wife, Rebecca Loghry. They had been married about three weeks and each is about twenty-five years old. Since their marriage they have been living most of the time with his father at Hepburn. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Smith of near Hawleyville.

    Neither Mr. nor Mrs. Loghry are possessed of very strong minds. It will probably go hard with this would-be-murderer as it should be. It is currently reported that he has been mean to his wife ever since they were married making her work out to earn her own living and to keep him.

    Clarinda Journal - Ralph Loghry of this city is now at liberty under a bond of $1,000 signed by his father, G.E. Lowry and brother, Joseph Lowry, of Valley township to await action by the Page county grand jury on the charge of assault with intent to commit murder by throwing his wife off the bridge over the Nodaway river at the site of the Shambaugh mill near Clarinda. His wife, Beck Loghry, charges him with so doing, and claims that he threw her twenty-four feet into the water below the bridge. She shows some bruises on her arm, which she says were caused by the fall. She and her husband were married in July, 1909, and her husband is suing her for divorce in the Page county district court. She is fighting the divorce and claims not to know why her husband should assault her. It is claimed that she was thrown off the bridge Sept. 7. Her husband was arrested on the 8th inst., by Constable Mosely, and the case was before Justice C. W. Stuart the 11th and 13th inst., when he bound the defendant over. The defendant was released from jail on giving his bond.

    Ralph Loghry was indicted by the Page county grand jury on the charge of assault with intent to commit murder and the case came on for hearing last week. From the evidence it seems that the defendant and his wife were crossing a bridge over the Nodaway near Clarinda and he was accused of pushing her off the bridge into the water below with the intention of committing murder. At the trial of the case the woman went on the stand and testified that she did not know whether he pushed her off or whether she lost her balance and fell over. There was about four feet of water in the creek and the woman floundered around for some time and finally reached the bank and was dragged out by the husband like a drowned rat. She got mighty wet. After hearing her evidence the court decided to throw it out and save further expense.

Loghry in which plaintiff was asking for a divorce and defendant entered a general denial and also a cross-petition alleging cruel and inhuman treatment and among other things that plaintiff threw her off a bridge and tried to drown her in the Nodaway river last fall, was set for trial for last Wednesday morning, but when Judge Wheeler learned that the parties were the same who appeared before him last fall in the case of the state against R.E. Loghry for the alleged attempted drowning, he refused to hear it, saying he would not grant a decree to the parties and preferred not to hear it. A little girl was born to Mrs. Loghry several months ago, and has been in the home of Mr. Loghry's parents near Hepburn for some time. The court made an order that the paternal grandmother should have the custody of the child for the present and that the parents might visit the child once each month for two hours

Gentry of car No. 186 of the Walker street line, prevented a serious accident when his car struck a team and wagon containing Albert McFadden, his wife, their four children, Hazel, aged 16, Rosa 14, Fred 10, Glen 5, and a playmate, Jessie Short, 12 years old, at 10:30 o'clock last night on the corner of Walker and East Seventeenth streets.

    McFadden attempted to turn his team across the track ahead of the car, according to witnesses. His wagon was overturned, although the car stopped within six feet of the point where it struck the wagon. Mrs. Clara McFadden suffered from a sprained ankle, and her daughter Hazel was badly bruised about the head. The children and Mr. McFadden escaped without injury.

    Her obituary was published on 22 June 1945 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, United States. Services for Mrs. Rose V. Clemans, 48, lifelong Des Moines resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton's funeral home. Burial will be in Youngstown cemetery.

    Mrs. Clemans, 1504 E. Madison ave., died Wednesday en route to Broadlawns General hospital. She was ill three years.

    Surviving are two sons, Walter and Eugene Clemans, both seaman, first class, serving in the Pacific; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Thornton, Des Moines; and three brothers, Glenn McFadden, Des Moines, and Frank and Fred McFadden, both of Kansas City, Mo.

    His obituary was published on 18 November 1969 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, United States. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Funeral Home for Frank S. McFadden, 76, of 1406 E. Seventeenth court, who died of a heart attack Monday at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Pleasant Hill.

    Mr. McFadden, a retired laborer, was born in Seymour and spent most of his life in Des Moines. He was a memer of the Beams of Grace Tabernacle.

    Survivors include his wife, Della; six daughters, Mrs. Ellen Green, Mrs. Alice Pinegar, and Mrs. Irene Duncan, all of Des Moines, Mrs. Vivian Monnig and Mrs. Donna Baker, both of Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Mrs. Anna Edrington of Long Beach, Calif; five sons, Frank, Jr., and John, both of Kansas City, Mo., Raymond of Des Moines, Abner of Independence, Mo., and Arnold of Litchfield, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Thornton of Des Moines; a brother, Fred of Des Moines; 125 grandchildren and 139 grandchildren.
