    His obituary was published on 1 August 2016 in Vermillion, Clay, South Dakota, United States. Warren "Dick" George Jorgensen, 91, of Ek Point, SD died peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 23, 2016.

    Warren was born June 9 , 1925 in rural Wakonda, SD to Andrew and Frances (Sweeley) Jorgensen. He was the 2nd child of 7 born to this family. He attended many country schools in rural Clay and Yankton counties. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines and Korea.

    Warren married Mary Hammond on July 6, 1952 in Elk Point. They worked on their farm in Yankton from 1952-1956 and moved to the farm in Elk Point. They enjoyed farm life and never desired to be any place else. Warren worked on his farm until his death. Warren and Mary enjoyed hosting many barn dances and they also traveled to old time dances in Yankton, Vermillion and Akron, IA. He was an accomplished musician, playing the accordion, fiddle, piano and guitar. His family was amazed at his mathematical ability and his unique way of being able to fix almost anythin. Warren loved his animals, especially his sheep, and took in many stray dogs and cata over the years. His three granddaughters were a constant source of pride and joy for him.

    He is survived by his four chidren: Sandra (George Spiehs) Jorgensen of Pierre, SD, Dickson Jorgensen of Arlington, SD, Jeanette (Loren) Johnson and Dexter (Noreen) Jorgensen all of Burbank, SD, his granddaughters: Janet (Carl) Towner, Kelley Jorgensen and Kerrey Jorgensen and a great granddaughter Carolyn Towner. He is also survived by a sister in law Annabelle Spurling of Tyndall, SD, a sister Elizabeth Fiedler of Yankton, a brother Lowell of Elk Point, and a step grandson Christopher Robinson of Elk Point.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, and brothers Marc, Ronald, Dale and Gerald.

    His obituary was published in Wakonda, Clay, South Dakota, United States. Gerald Andrew Jorgensen, 71, entered into his heavenly home on July 23, 2006, while resting peacefully at the Wakonda Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was surrounded by a visiting pastor and family members and friends.

    "Jerry" was born Sept. 12, 1934 in Turner County, near Viborg. He was the youngest and seventh child of Frances Sweeley Jorgensen and Andrew Jorgensen. Early childhood days were spent in a caring lifestyle with five brothers and one sister enjoying their baby brother. Jerry was blessed with abundant red silky curls and big brown eyes.

    The Jorgensen family moved to Yankton County in the late 1930s. There Jerry entered first grade at Roosevelt School District #57. Later they purchased a farm near Gavins Point Dam west of Yankton. Jerry and three of his brothers attended Hill View School and graduated from there.

    Horseback riding was his favorite past time. This was the beginning of his love for horses, western clothing and music. He enjoyed romping with the family dogs, herding livestock and listening to country western music.

    He joined the U.S. Army in 1960, stationed at Fort Hood, TX. His service time was spent working with missiles in New Mexico. He was honorably discharged in 1963.

    Following his discharge, he worked at Lincoln, NE, and Sioux City, IA. During his lifetime, he was a dependable and dedicated worker.

    Employed in the Yankton area most of his working years, he held positions at Gurney Seed and Nursery Co. He also worked at the Cimpl Packing Co., for several years. He retired from the Dietary Department at the Human Services Center in 1997 after many years of employment.

    A devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Yankton, he participated in several activities. He spent many hours in the church yards, developing and maintaining flower beds and shrubs. He enjoyed helping with kitchen and dining room duties, and always was present for fund-raising functions. He will be greatly missed by his church friends.

    He is survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews; four brothers, Mark, of Crescent City, FL, Warren (Mary) of Burbank, Ronald (Mary) of Flandreau, and Lowell of Burbank; and his sister, Elizabeth of Mesa, AZ. His parents and a brother, Dale, preceded him in death.

    Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at the United Methodist Church in Yankton, with burial in Union Cemetery, Wakonda. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, is in charge of arrangements.
