  • Note:

Her last name is shown in various documents as Martin, Jones, and Johnson. She seems to be a very mysterious person as some documents list the state in which she was born as Illinois, some as Iowa (1880 census) and some as Kansas. Her daughter, May, who was from her first marriage, states that both May and her mother were born in Illinois and that May's parents were married in Illinois. In the 1925 Census May listed only her mother's first name and left the surname blank.

Rebecca had two daughters at time of marriage to M. L. Thornton: Julia and May. Julia married Tom McDonald and they had a son named Walker. Tom had a farm on Aurora. Find A Grave for her son, Walker McDonald, lists mother as Julia Dicks McDonald (1874-1951).

May married Bill Olds and they had two sons: Harold and Roy

Ira Harrison Butler1

M, #98, b. 25 November 1892, d. 19 October 1946

Biography

  • Birth: Ira Harrison Butler was born on 25 November 1892 in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska, United StatesBGO.2,3
  • Marriage: He and Anna May Rouse were married after 1 March 1940 in Polk, Iowa, United StatesBGO.4
  • Death: He died on 19 October 1946, at age 53, in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, United StatesBGO.2,5
  • Name: Ira Harrison Butler was also known as Ira Harrison Butler.6,3
  • World War I Draft Registration: World War I Draft Registration: Ira Harry Butler registered for World War I Draft, on 5 June 1917, in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa, United StatesBGO. Ira Harry Butler, age 25 of 1017 Lyon in Des Moines, Iowa, registered for the draft. He was a natural born citizen, born in Omaha, Nebraska. His trade was listed as a truck driver for Reliable Rug Co. He was a married caucasian with a wife and one child dependent on him.7
  • Marriage License: Ira and Anna obtained a marriage license on 2 March 1940 in Polk, Iowa, United StatesBGO.
Although Anna Mae Rouse and Ira H. Butler obtained a marriage license on 2 Mar 1940 in Polk County, Iowa, no proof has been found that it was ever filed. They were found in the 1940 Census listed as husband and wife and on Ira's 1942 World War II Draft Registration he listed Anna May Butler as his wife and the person who would know where he was. But his death certificate stated he was divorced and his obituary, found 21 Oct 1946 in the Des Moines Register (page 9) stated he was survived by one daughter, one sister, one half-sister, one half-brother, and two grandchildren but no mention of a wife, leaving the question of whether they were ever married. A Card of Thanks was published in the Des Moines Register on 23 Oct 1946 (page 19) by the Wayne Cummings family (his daughter's family) thanking neighbors, friends, and relatives for their acts of love and sympathy during the recent loss of their beloved father, Ira H. Butler did not include mention of a wife. It appears that they lived together for at least two years between 1940-1942, but the question of was it an actual marriage or more of a common-law marriage remains. Anna's daughter Gladys, when questioned about this, stated she didn't think they ever actually married.4
