Funeral services for Carl Thornton, lifelong Des Moines resident, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hamilton's funeral home with burial in Laurel Hill cemetery. Mr. Thornton, 55, died Tuesday at his home, 1504 E. Madison ave. He had been employed by Solar Aircraft Corp.

    Surviving are his widow, Hazel, two sons, Albert, Des Moines; and Arthur, in the army overseas; daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Nelson, three brothers, Reily, Irvin and Clifford; two sisters, Mrs. Alta Hawks and Mrs. Edna Rounds and a half-sister, Mrs. Julia McDonald, all of Des Moines.

    On August 6, 1969, an auction was held at the Gabriel Nelson farm of its machinery and household belongings. Widowed in 1968, Thelma and their three children moved to Brookings, South Dakota soon after the auction. Thelma worked for awhile but is retired now for several years. She has had hip replacements but enjoys dancing and travels when she can. She is active in keeping up with her three married children and their children. She continues to reside in Brookings and on 28 May 1993 she remarried to a Norbert Dolan, a retired farmer originally from Flandreau.
