• Story:
  John Roush was born March 8, 1799 or 1801 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania according to his great granddaughter, Laura Bonawitt. His death occurred in Freeport, Michigan on August 17, 1871. John Roush married his second cousin, Mary Magdalene Roush, daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Seece) Roush. She was born May 23, 1802, in Westmoreland County, Pa., and died Feb. 29, 1888, in Irving, Michigan. Her brothers and sisters were: Frederic, Catherine, Margaret, John, Jacob who died in infancy, Abraham, Susannah, Jacob, died while a child and was the second child of that name, Martin, Christina.
  
  The descendants do not remember anything about Martin, but Elizabeth his wife, died in Holmes County, Ohio. They moved from Pennsylvania to Holmes County, when Mary Magdalene was about 12 years of age. Their daughter Catherine, with her husband was thought to have been lost at sea when making a trip to Germany.
  
  Frederic, eldest son and child, married, but the name of his wife has not been learned. His children were: Catherine, Samuel, and Nancy.
  
  Elizabeth Roush, another daughter, married a Mr. Dietz, and lived at Hanesville, Ohio. It is believed that none of Mary Magdalene's brothers and sisters went to Michigan.
  
  Children of John and Magdalene (Roush) were: Daniel, Michael, Isaac, John, Samuel, Elizabeth, Lydia Ann, Margaret, Catherine, Polly, Susannah and Sarah.¹
