  Mr. Kaech was born in Salem, S.D., and had been a Santa Maria resident for the past year, moving from Port Hueneme. He was a graduate of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941, serving in Canada and England, and in June 1943, joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II, he served in the 91st Bomb Group (H) as a radio operator/gunner on B-17s. He was a prisoner of war from August 1943 to May 1945 at Stalag XVII B....⁴
