Relationship:
4th cousin 1 time removed of Debra Sue Loghry
Jerry Loghry
M, #4021, b. 8 April 1937, d. 11 March 2011
Parents
Biography
- Birth: Jerry Loghry was born on 8 April 1937.
- Death: He died on 11 March 2011, at age 73, in Wyoming, United StatesBGO, After a brief illness, Jerry Loghry, 73, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 10. He was born on April 8, 1937 and lived nearly his entire life in Cheyenne.
Jerry spent his first days in a cardboard shoebox "incubator" which earned him the nickname, "Pwee." Pwee graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1955; the same year childhood friends Janice (Sherard) Legler and Tom Allen introduced him to Nancy Hascall who he married in 1956. After a wonderful 44 years of marriage, Nancy passed away in 2000.
At 15 Jerry began working at Husky Truck Stop as a custodian. Majoring in petroleum engineering he commuted to the University of Wyoming while continuing working at the truck stop. Truly a self-made man, he worked in every position from pump jockey to station manager at the truck stop, later Truck Terminals, Inc., culminating in Chief Executive Officer of Fleischli Oil. Retiring in 1997 after 44 years in the oil business he remained grateful for a wonderful career that resulted in the life-long friendships he developed with employees, coworkers, peers and customers; most especially Bob Jensen, Jerry John, Frank Cushatt, Fred Baggs, John Hornbeck, "Lefty" Cole, Tom Allan, and Frank Tillman. While all important, none more than that of his friend and mentor, Gus Fleischli. Jerry and Gus were the perfect "couple." Together they were responsible for not only creating a multi-million dollar business, but doing so with honor and integrity. Upon retirement Jerry said "my greatest professional happiness came from being able to be a part of helping provide a living for so many or so long."
An avid fly fisherman, Jerry fished the world . . . but Wyoming streams and lakes remained his favorite spots. In retirement he began tying flies, and like everything else he did, he pursued perfection; finding the perfect materials, to tie the perfect fly to catch that next perfect fish. Jerry was passionate about UW athletics and spent decades as a Cowboy Joe member. As a surprise to even, Jerry, in retirement he developed a green thumb and spent hours in his yard creating beauty with hybrid roses and thousands of gorgeous flowers. He recently discovered the I-Pad which earned him the nickname, Dex, because there wasn't anything he couldn't find.
In 2001, Jerry was blessed to meet Sandi Troyer who he married in 2005. They happily shared old interests, memories and friends while joyfully creating new interests and memories and most especially a blended circle of family and friends that brought Jerry great joy. While blending lives, families and friends was often challenging and chaotic, Jerry found it such a wonderful journey; filled with happiness and hope.
Jerry is survived by wife, Sandi. Children Jeff and Corey, Cheyenne; Randy and wife, Stacy, Colorado; Curt and wife, Julie, Nebraska. Grandchildren Bailey and Brentton Anthony, Cheyenne; Levi, Logan and Avery Loghry; Colorado. Stepchildren Steve and Michelle Jensen; Keylee and Pat Swallow; Marla and Ron Lee; Stephanie and John Brocker; Scott and Molly Troyer. Step grandchildren Jed and Cheryl Jensen, Will and Mary Mosley-Jensen, Danielle and Jess Jensen-Ryan; Rachel and Cassie Swallow; Maya and Kendra Lee; Roy Brocker; Mandy and Andy Vranek. Great grandchildren Ian Vranek and Liam Jensen. Sisters Cindy Germaine, and husband, Norm; and Judy Shupe. Jerry was preceded in death by parents Jay and Irene and brother, Rod, and life-long friends Tom Allen, Jim Bundy and his favorite fishing partner, Jerry Legler.
As revealed by a glint in his eye, Jerry loved and enjoyed life and shared his wonderful sense of humor with everyone he came in contact with. His life was enhanced by many "old" friends and many new friends. While every one of those friends special to him, especially remarkable and thanked for their years of friendship and love, many spanning over 50 years are; Ev Allen; Betty Jean Bundy; Joan and Dean Carroll; Janice Legler; Joanne and Everett Mill, Stan and Joanne Sigler; Rollie and Carol Cahalan, Gina John, Jill Jensen, Pete Shea, Karen Loghry, Danny and Jean Ackermann, Jim and Sally Allen, Barbara and John Galeotos; Don and Nancy Lawler (Don became Jerry's favorite fishing partner); Jerry and Sherry Haeg; and Cindy and Jim Prestridge. (A special thanks to Jim who proved to Jerry you can make a new best friend no matter your age.) Also a special thanks to the guys of his Thursday "let's visit every dive within driving distance to find the best burger and beer" club; he had never looked more forward to Thursdays.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Little America Grand Ballroom from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with Bob Jensen officiating. Jerry called himself "basic," but he was far from that. He was a true gentleman, mischievous yet a kind and gentle spirit and absolutely one of the nicest men to have graced every life he came in contact with.
Thanks to doctors Jeff Carlton, Rob Lanier and Mike Kellam for their care. A special thanks to Dr. Mike Herber for his tremendous care, support and friendship. And most of all thanks to Bailey Anthony and Levi Loghry, for the nearly round the clock care they provided their granddad in his last few weeks.
