  The Dillons moved to Ohio in 1807 when Luke was 17, where they were farmers. Luke later moved to Vermillion County, Illinois, making the journey with his 6 horse team. He bought a farm a mile North of Georgetown when it was a wild county. It was a large farm, and he built a log house on it, which had one room and a kitchen added. Luke and his wife, Charity were from Quaker families.
  Both of their families had a long history in America, immigrating in the late 1600s to early 1700s, as did Charity's family who came to America in the 1600s.Luke and Charity became parents of 10 children, all who grew to adulthood. Charity died in 1837 when her children were between 24 and 9 years old. Unlike most widowed men with children of that time, Luke did not remarry right away, but waited 11 years before taking his second wife.
  He married second to Sarah Haworth (1795-1879). She was the daughter of William Haworth and Jane Brazelton.²
