  John Eldon Loghry, age 92 of Thurman, IA died Wednesday, November 14,2018 at the VA hospital in Omaha Nebraska. John was born September 30,1926 on the family farm near Hepburn, IA to John Harvey Loghry and Helena Grace (Burns) Loghry. He married Norma Elaine Focht on May 23,1944 in Marysville, MO. He served in WWII and served in both Korea and the Philippines. He was married 70 years to the love of his life and blessed with eight children.
  
  John wore many hats throughout his life. He served in the infantry during WW II, rode bucking broncs in the rodeo, worked in a bakery, drove semi trucks cross country, trained and raced horses, was an ABS breeder, farmed, and was an around jack of all trades. John was very proud of all his family. He enjoyed playing Santa for the kids of Thurman and making fresh donuts on Christmas morning. John was a proud member of the Tabor VFW. He will be missed by all.
  
  John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma, son Jack Loghry, daughter Nancy Vanatta, son-in-law Rod Umphreys; 2 brothers, Leo Loghry and Leland Loghry; sister Dean Howard; and 3 granddaughters Jeane Elaine, Jennifer Marie, and Jamie Sue Beers. He is survived by his sister Nina Cristofano and and husband Dan of Denver Colorado; 3 sons Carroll Loghry of Thurman, John Loghry and wife Lorie of Thurman, and Randy Loghry and wife Tracy of Glenwood, IA; 3 daughters, Brenda Beers and husband Charlie of Sidney,IA, Sandra Umphreys of Thurman, and Jeannie Navrkal and husband Dan of Beaver Lake, NE; daughter-in-law Donna Loghry of Osage Beach, Missouri, son-in-law Donnie Vanatta of Tabor, IA; 25 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
  
  Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA with Pastor Richard Billingsley officiating. Visitation will be open after 5:00 PM Sunday with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Chapel. Memorials will go to the Rommel-Conklin VFW Post #7064 of Tabor, IA. Interment will be in the Thurman, IA Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Rommel-Conklin VFW Post #7064 of Tabor. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.^1,2

  Leland moved to Shenandoah as a child and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1948. Upon graduating, Leland joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War.
  
  He married Evelyn Green on April 8, 1951 in Blockton, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children; Bill, Linda, Beverly, Kathy, Larry and Dianne.
  
  Leland lived most of his life on the farm. Besides farming, he worked various jobs including construction and Eatons Corporation from which he retired.
  
  Since retiring, Leland enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed caring for his farm animals, gardening and was actively involved in the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church. He volunteered at the Coin Library, served on the Coin City Council and mowed lawns for elderly widows.
  
  Leland was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena; his sister Haroldene; and his brothers Harold, Leo and Virgil. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Evelyn Loghry of Coin, Iowa, children; Bill Loghry and wife Trish of St. George, Utah, Linda Woolsey and husband Bill of Clarinda, Iowa, Beverly Loghry of Nashville, Tennessee, Kathy Hall and husband Dave of Farragut, Iowa, Larry Loghry and wife Jacque of Maryville, Missouri and Dianne Nespory and husband Mike of Platte City, Missouri, 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, sister Nina Cristofano and husband Dan of Denver, Colorado, brother Eldon Loghry and wife Norma of Thurman, Iowa, and along with numerous other relatives and friends.
  
  May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn his loss.²
