    Immigration
1697 | Whorekill, Sussex, Province of Maryland, Colonial America+
She immigrated in 1697 to Whorekill, Sussex, Province of Maryland, Colonial America+. This couple immigrated to American in about 1697. They lived on the Maryland coast in a town called Harbills. It was to to Mary's house in Harbills that George went upon arriving in America in 1699. Location, in correspondence, was referred to as Hurbills, Harbills, and Whorkill. The place was actually called and spelled "Whorekill," which was anglicized from the Dutch name for the same place. The Dutch name was "Hoerekill" which translates as "Harlot's River." For a brief period of time the village name was changed from Whorekill to Deal. Later William Penn permanently changed the name of the village of Whorekill/Deal to Lewes, after Lewes in Sussex County, England. After the village name was changed to Lewes, the village was often referred to as Lewestown, although that name was never official. Therefore, Mary was living at the current location of Lewes, Sussex County, Delaware, in 1699 when George visited her.

He immigrated in October 1682 to Bucks, Pennsylvania, United States. John II and their children were Quakers but his wife Sarah was not. He was a coachman and blacksmith like his father and was also a member of the Peel Meeting.

In 1682 he accepted William Penn's open invitation to come to America where freedom of religion could be found. He took his oldest child, John III with him to America, where he purchased for five pounds 250 acres along Neshaminy Creek near Langhorne in Bucks County. He had purchased the land while still in England on July 4, 1682, and arrived in Pennsylvania in October of 1682. Father and son stayed in Bucks County, just north of Philadelphia for almost two years.

In 1684 he returned to England to bring the rest of his family to America. His wife Sarah was deathly afraid of the long sea voyage and they never came back to America. He remained in London until his death on April 11, 1706.
