  Ellen Elaine Nobles, 85, of Ocala, Florida passed away at E.W. & Lucille Cates Hospice House of Marion County, on December 28, 2024. She was born January 23, 1939, the daughter of the late John Welch and Velda Welch. Ellen was born in Union County, South Dakota. She moved to Ocala in June of 1975 after Ray retired from the U.S. Airforce. Married to the love of her life Raymond Ellis Nobles, Sr. who proposed after only dating for six weeks. They married and began their life of travel and adventures as they moved to Okinawa, Panama City Florida, The Mojave Desert in California, Great Falls Montana, Orlando Florida, and back to Panama City. Together the two shared many years of love and happiness. They enjoyed fishing, crabbing, shrimping, square dancing and Nascar Racing. Taking advantage of the close proximity to the Daytona Speedway they often attended the Coca-Cola 600, even getting Dale Earnhart Sr.'s autograph. When asked if she achieved her life goals, she would say she did. She wanted nothing more than to be a loving wife, mother, and a grandmother. She enjoyed interactions with her son and remembering the big trout he caught at Holter Dam in Great Falls, Montana. Loving to tell stories she was quick to point out he was so excited he left pole and fish on the bank to run up and tell them in the camper. Luckily it was still on the pole, and they had fresh trout, eggs, and toast for breakfast. Ellis [Raymond] married and then there were grandkids to make memories with, Stephen and Jennifer. She was a loving and devoted grandmother who attended all school functions and extracurricular activities. She was very proud of the grandkids and made sure they felt her love from reading Raggy Ann & Andy books to visits to parks. Weekly they stroll through Silver Springs State Park feeding the deer and riding the glass bottom boats. An excellent cook, she taught them how to bake and put on the show for Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas Eve celebrations. She enjoyed the arts painting ceramics, oil paintings of the desert, and crafting fabric dolls for decorations. Ellen is survived by her son Ellis Raymond Nobles, [Lynn Duncan Nobles], granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Farmer DVM [William "Brad" Farmer], 3 siblings Pat Stillion, Colleen Youngbluth, and Debbie Welch and numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; John Welch, and Velda Welch: grandson; Stephen Michael Nobles MD: siblings; Marilyn Aase, John Welch, and Tim Welch.⁴

3. [S1515] William G. Allen, A History of Story County, Iowa, The History of Story County, Iowa by W. G. Allen was printed in 1887. Many copies survive, however most are in poor condition. The Story County, Iowa Genealogical Society published an surname Index in 1973, and in 1975 published a facsimile reprint of the 1887 History including the Index. Permission has been granted by the Story County, Iowa Genealogical Society to republish the index here. The name index has been expanded here to include names found in the book's appendix. In addition, titles have been added to each page to make it easier to scan.
   It is estimated that almost one-half of the adult population of the county as of about 1886 are named in this book.
   The book has been scanned and then converted to text using optical character recognition. This introduces errors, many of which are corrected in the editing process, but not all. The book itself sometimes contained misspellings which are left unchanged.
