  Col. Axtell was the brother of the English-American Axtells' direct ancestor, Thomas Axtell of Sudbury, Massachusetts (so he's "Uncle Dan" to us). Thirteen officials were executed as regicides in 1660 and 1662 for their parts in the trial and execution of King Charles I.
  
  A picture appears in the 1945 Axtell Genealogy and the "Axtell Tercentenary, 1643-1943". The picture is captioned "from An Old Print".¹
