Okemos, MI--Born September 23, 1920 in Platte, South Dakota, Ruth Jorinda Johnson died February 19, 2009 at the age of 88. She was an avid traveler, having gone around the world twice. She kept active as a volunteer for the School for the Blind, Meals on Wheels, a greeter in the Sparrow Hospital Emergency Department, and a member of the P.E.O.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Van; daughter, Julie Ann (Steven) Spencer; sons, Thomas C. (Brenda) Johnson, Timothy P. (Barbara) Johnson; grandchildren, Kim Johnson, Kent Johnson, Brooks (Naida) Johnson, Brendan (Jana Johnson, Kelsey Johnson, Ivy Riveland, Elisa (Andy) Holm, Michael (Janice) Spencer, Scott Spencer; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 4515 Dobie Rd., Okemos, MI, with Pastor Jim Wenger officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of South Dakota, 414 E. Clark St., Vermillion, SD 57069, in memory of Ruth.Citation: 5
