It is very possible that Ole and his family have been found on a farm called Skjervoldsplads in the sub parish of Skatvold, parish of N. Stjørdal, in the fylke of Nord Trøndelag. The census shows Kristofer Olson, born in 1835. Wife was Mette Jonsdatter, born 1830. Two sons, Johan Kristofersen, born 1856, and Ole Peter Kristofersen, born 1860. He was listed as a "husman."

Almost all our ancestors who emigrated were husmen and their families. Their lives were extremely difficult in Norway. There were many reasons people left, the biggest reason was to try to get a better life for the family and especially to secure more opportunity for their children. Almost all of the early emigration from Norway was composed of entire family groups. Single people who came were generally sisters or brothers or other relatives of parents of the family.

    Obituary
2 December 1909 | Elk Point, Union, South Dakota, United States
His obituary was published in the Union County Courier on 2 December 1909 in Elk Point, Union, South Dakota, United States. Christian Frederick Hansen was born at Nordstrand, an island off the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, 13 Jun 1856. Here he passed his childhood and, at the age of sixteen, learned the tailor's trade, spending 5 years at the apprenticeship. He was drafted into service in the Germany army when he was at the age of 20 to 23, but continued to work at his trade a good deal of the time. On 4 Dec 1883 he married Madeline Selk, the wife who survives him. Three children were born in the old country.

In 1890 he left Germany and emigrated to the United States, coming to Union county, which has been his home since, with the exception of about 6 months in 1890, when the family lived in Akron. Two children died and were buried at Akron during this period; one died in the old country. Two are married, Mrs. Peter Larson of Douglass, N. D. and Mrs. Ole Johnson of Lake Andes, S. D. Eleven children are living, five boys and six girls. All except the married ones are at home, except Fred, sixteen, who is in North Dakota.

For nearly nineteen years Mr. Hansen worked at his trade in Elk Point, where he was recognized as a capable and painstaking workman. For some two years past he has been suffering from Bright's disease, which assumed a violent nature about a week ago. He passed away Monday afternoon [29 Nov] at 4 o'clock. The funeral was held at the Baptist church, yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. Geo. W. Bird conducting the funeral services. He was burned in the Elk Point cemetery and it is planned to bring the remains of the two children buried at Akron here to be interred by his side.
