• Death: He died after 26 October 1745 in Louisburg, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, CanadaBG, Family tradition is that Abraham volunteered to join the expedition which, under General William Pepperell, captured Louisburg, Cape Breton, 17 June 1745. As we was then about 72 years of age, he could not enlist as a regular soldier but it has been supposed that he volunteered to go as an unlisted man. It is claimed that his children told their children how their father lost his life in connection with the capture of that stronghold. After the capture of the fortress it was necessary for New England to send supplies "thither." From a paper supposed to be in his handwriting, Abraham Wellman was "bound for sea" on 26 October 1745, which is the last mention found concerning him.⁴
