Stella “Sis” Violet Johnson, 100, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point. Stella was born on March 10, 1914 in Salix, Iowa to Frederick and Margaret (Hansen) Madsen. She graduated from Luton High School and went on to attend business school in Sioux City, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Fredrick Olaf Johnson from Elk Point in 1938, and the two remained happily married until his passing on November 13, 1959. She lived in Salix, Iowa until 1938 and she moved back to live in Elk Point. She worked at Mid America Energy as an office manager for 20 years, retiring in age of 65. She was very active in her church, Ladies Aid, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She is survived by her sons, Fred (Christine) Johnson of Eugene, Oregon, and Gary (Marla) Johnson of Carson City, Nevada; her grandson, Doug Johnson, her great-granddaughter, Kayla Crowder; her step-granddaughters, Jennifer Smith and Dianna Doreen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick; her parents; and her ten siblings. Stella’s family would like to express a very heartfelt thank you to Judy Fosvik, Darlene Larson, Floyd and (Annabelle) Lennon, and Esther (Clifford) Haines and their families for their compassion and dignity shown to Stella.
