  A Celebration of Ken's life will be held at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, 2208 W. LaQuinta Street in Sioux Falls at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 10th. Following the service, there will be a time for Ken's friends and families to visit at the Church. Coffee and treats will be provided.
  
  Ken was born to Marlin and Effie (Foote) Bird in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 3, 1949. He was raised in Elk Point, South Dakota, where, despite a childhood battle with polio, he became an Eagle Scout and the church organist. After graduating from Elk Point High School, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana University in 1972 and a Masters Counseling from the University of South Dakota in 1976.
  
  After graduation from Augie, Ken was a high school English teacher and counselor in Revillo and Lake Andes, South Dakota, and was especially known for his direction of exceptional high school theatre productions. In 1979 he moved to Rapid City, and while there took a stained glass class – which changed the course of his life. In 1981 he moved to Sioux Falls and opened Dakota Stained Glass which he operated until his death. He is known throughout the area for his artistry in designing and creating stained glass windows. His beautiful windows can be seen in churches, schools, hospitals, commercial buildings and homes, and will serve as his legacy for generations. Ever a teacher, Ken enjoyed conducting stained glass classes for adults and children
  
  He also repaired and restored many antique or damaged stained glass windows, especially for churches, some originally installed in the 19th century.
  
  Ken is survived by his brother Larry (wife Sue) of Newhall California; several cousins, and an uncountable number of friends. He was predeceased by his parents.²
