    His obituary was published in 2018. Ken T. Bird passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer on December 4, 2017.

    A Celebration of Ken's life will be held at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, 2208 W. LaQuinta Street in Sioux Falls at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 10th. Following the service, there will be a time for Ken's friends and families to visit at the Church. Coffee and treats will be provided.

    Ken was born to Marlin and Effie (Foote) Bird in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 3, 1949. He was raised in Elk Point, South Dakota, where, despite a childhood battle with polio, he became an Eagle Scout and the church organist. After graduating from Elk Point High School, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Augustana University in 1972 and a Masters Counseling from the University of South Dakota in 1976.

    After graduation from Augie, Ken was a high school English teacher and counselor in Revillo and Lake Andes, South Dakota, and was especially known for his direction of exceptional high school theatre productions. In 1979 he moved to Rapid City, and while there took a stained glass class – which changed the course of his life. In 1981 he moved to Sioux Falls and opened Dakota Stained Glass which he operated until his death. He is known throughout the area for his artistry in designing and creating stained glass windows. His beautiful windows can be seen in churches, schools, hospitals, commercial buildings and homes, and will serve as his legacy for generations. Ever a teacher, Ken enjoyed conducting stained glass classes for adults and children

    He also repaired and restored many antique or damaged stained glass windows, especially for churches, some originally installed in the 19th century.

    Ken is survived by his brother Larry (wife Sue) of Newhall California; several cousins, and an uncountable number of friends. He was predeceased by his parents.

He entered the U.S. army in March of 1943. He served overseas during World War II in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central European Theatre until his discharge. He married Darlene Bird of Elk Point. They resided in southern California after their marriage.

    Mrs. Fredrickson preceded him in death.

    He is survived by a daughter, Pamaila Palancher; a son, Kimberly Fredrickson; two grandchildren, Marisa Palancher and Raymond Fredrickson; two brothers, Carroll of Sioux City and La Verne of Elk Point; and a sister, Leora McCormick of Downey, Calif. and several nieces and nephews.

    Delores L. Dickens, 83, formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, 19 May 2004 at her residence in Arizona.

    Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Spaulding of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. There will be no local visitation....

    Delores Lorraine Dickens was born 15 May 1921 in Elk Point, South Dakota, the daughter of Chester and Dora (Hansen) Davis. She married Lawrence Clifford Dickens on 30 Dec 1940 in Dakota City, Nebraska.

    Survivors include her sons, Charles (Kay) Dickens of La Mirada, California and Larry (Sheryl) Dickens of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; daughters, Barbara (Jim) Hennessey of Vermillion, South Dakota and Doreen Burke of Peoria, Arizona; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband; a son-in-law, Jim Burke; a grandson, Terry Hennessey; and two brothers, Floyd and Donald Davis.
